WESTSIDE

The Westside revitalization process began in 1998 with Ventura Vision, and was carried through by City staff and the Comp Plan Advisory Committee from 2001 to August 2004.  The momentum continued with City Council's adoption of the Enconomic Development Strategy in 2005, which highlighted the Westside as focus area number three and the Upper North Avenue focus area number four.

Feb. 27th Design Review Committee Meeting On Westside Villas

The Feb. 27th  DRC meeting went well.  The main discussion pertained to the exterior structures and landscaping.  The 7 foot wall across Carr Drive continues to remain intact.  Mark Gatanti eloquently spoke on behalf of the neighbors, and Michael O'Daniel and Marcene Newman turned in comment cards.  Thank you also to Tracy Newman and WCC friend John Kilburn for their attendance and support.

Our numbers were small, but seemingly appropriate for the meeting.  In 2-6 months, the project will be reviewed by the Planning Commission.  Those nearest the project will receive postcards and a large sign will be posted at the site.  If discussion for connectivity to the project is to take place, it will be at this meeting.  Please consider attending (and
either speaking or filling out a comment card) when it is scheduled.

The DRC (Design Review Committee) meetings are recorded by CAPS (local cable TV
Channel), but not aired live. To view a meeting, one has to look on CAPS's website and
find when the meeting is scheduled for airing.

The planning staff that collaborated with us on the Westside Villa project are no longer
working there: Joey Briglio, Kevin Colin (his supervisor), and David Ward (HIS supervisor).
Brian Randall is the new case manager.

According to the City's website, there are still 5 Design Review Committee members.
They are: Scott Boydstun (Chair)(also a Planning Com.), Glenda Goldstone,
John Hecht (also a Planning Commissioner) John Serrato, and John Stewart.

Michael Faulconer is no longer a commissioner or DRC member.

At last Monday's Council Meeting (02/11/08), planning staff gave a presentation about
the planning process. As we understand, according to their Powerpoint flowchart, DRC
meeting was the last public opportunity for community input. After the DRC meeting
comes construction permits, inspection, entitlements, etc.
